Fifty years is a long time. A long time to carve a niche and emerge as one of the premium brand names in the Salon and Hair industry. The initial brand name was Nalini n Yasmin and today Nalini has her own salon and the brand is known as Nalini of Nalini n Yasmin.
The names of Nalini Naegamwala and her daughter Natasha are synonymous with high quality hairdressing and great client service. Their Salon in Mumbai, Nalini of Nalini n Yasmin is known for its standard since the onslaught of the salon 50 yrs ago.
After a rewarding career spanning 50 years, once again Nalini has returned to her passion and is now continuing with her work skilling young people from low income groups and lesser privileged backgrounds in the fields of hair, beauty & spa. This is what she has done in a small way since 40 odd years and as she is heading towards retirement, creating careers for the lesser privileged is her main focus and is a major part of her life now
What she observed is that girls from simple backgrounds who sometimes hadn’t even finished school when given an opportunity made successful careers for themselves and were assets in the salon. Some of them are highly successful hair stylists and amazingly some are even salon owners!!
Not only are we giving them financial independence and self-confidence but a better life for their families as well. Most of them have educated their children thus their second generation have a better quality of life.
Whilst Skilling girls I started helping them to get jobs in salons. It branched out to getting them jobs not only in salons but elsewhere as well, especially during the lockdown period when so many persons were jobless. Before I knew what, word got around and I have got jobs for, barbers house maids, peons drivers etc. I am almost running an employment agency for the lesser privileged!
My retirement has given me so much fulfilment as one realises that there are so many persons from that background who just need a helping hand and guidance to make their life less difficult. When a woman works her future generation is better educated thus improving the standard of living of the family by moving up from uneducated and poorer parents to educated and middle class next generation!
However with the lockdown this programme of Skilling the lesser privileged which was on hold will be restarting shortly.
